Sedation Dentistry

Do you ever feel nervous about going to the dentist? You’re not alone—many people experience anxiety before dental visits, even if they go regularly. The good news is that you don’t have to avoid the care you need to keep your smile healthy. Dental sedation can make your visits more comfortable, especially if you struggle with:

  • High anxiety about dental treatments
  • A strong or sensitive gag reflex
  • Fear of needles or pain
  • Difficulty getting numb with local anaesthetic
  • Sensitivity to touch, smells, sights, or sounds
  • Trouble opening your mouth (such as with TMJ issues)
  • Extremely sensitive teeth
  • Previous negative dental experiences

IV Sedation

Intravenous (IV) sedation involves administering a calming medication directly into your bloodstream during your dental procedure.
While it’s sometimes called “twilight” or “sleep” dentistry, IV sedation doesn’t actually make you unconscious. Instead, it helps you feel deeply relaxed and at ease throughout your treatment.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

We offer Nitrous Oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, to help make your dental visits more comfortable. The gas is gently inhaled through a small nosepiece before and during treatment, helping ease feelings of stress or anxiety.

Nitrous oxide works quickly to create a warm, calm, and mildly euphoric sensation, making the appointment feel shorter and more pleasant. Its effects wear off almost immediately after the procedure, so you can carry on with your day as usual.

This option is especially helpful for children—in many cases, the dentist can complete restorative treatments without needing to use a local anaesthetic, helping kids build positive, fear-free memories of their dental visits.
